JOB TITLE: Programme Executive for Ecumenical Diakonia and Sustainable Development

DUTY STATION: Latin America Region (Home Office)

STARTING DATE: 1 April 2025

CONTRACT DURATION: Fixed-term contract of 4 years

POSITION AT (%): 100%

REPORTS TO: Director, Commission on Climate and Sustainable Development

PROGRAMMATIC AREA: Life, Justice and Peace work includes Public Witness (Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, Peace Building, the Jerusalem Liaison Office, the Ecumenical Office to the United Nations)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To lead and coordinate the implementation of the WCC’s Capacity    for Ecumenical Diakonia and Sustainable Development programme in the Latin America region. The role focuses on enhancing the capacity of WCC member churches, ecumenical and civil society partners to contribute effectively to sustainable development and ecumenical diakonia in alignment with the WCC’s 2023—2030 strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Planning and Implementation: 
1.1 Develop, implement, and monitor the regional strategy and action plans for the programme.
1.2 Ensure alignment with the global framework for ecumenical diakonia and sustainable development.
1.3 Provide technical guidance to regional and local partners in project design, execution, and reporting.

2. Capacity Building
2.1 Identify capacity gaps among WCC member churches and partners in the region and design tailored training and development initiatives.
2.2 Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and peer learning opportunities on diakonia, advocacy, and sustainable development practices.
2.3 Promote the integration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into ecumenical programs.

3. Networking and Advocacy
3.1 Build and strengthen partnerships with churches, ecumenical organizations, civil society, and government institutions.
3.2 Represent the WCC in regional platforms, conferences, and policy forums.
3.3 Promote advocacy initiatives on justice, peace, and environmental sustainability.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)
4.1 Develop and oversee M&E systems to track program performance and outcomes.
4.2 Prepare periodic reports for WCC leadership and donors, showcasing impact and lessons learned.
4.3 Conduct regular field visits to monitor projects and provide on-site support.

5. Resource Mobilization
5.1 Identify funding opportunities and assist in developing grant proposals for regional initiatives.
5.2 Manage program budgets and ensure accountability in the use of financial resources.

6. Relationships and inclusivity
6.1 Foster dialogue and collaboration across diverse WCC member churches and partners.
Ensure that program activities reflect gender equity and inclusivity principles

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background: Advanced degree in Theology, Social, Development, International Relations, or a related field.

Experience
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in program management, preferably in the ecumenical, faith-based, or development sectors.
• Proven track record in capacity building, advocacy, and partnership development.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong understanding of ecumenical diakonia, sustainable development, and the SDGs.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in Spanish and English (Portuguese is an asset).
• Proficiency in financial management and donor reporting.
• Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural and religious settings.

• Demonstrated ability to inspire and mobilize stakeholders toward common goals.
• Willingness to travel frequently within the region and internationally.

Contract Terms:

Fixed-term contract, renewable based on funding and performance.
