Senior Assembly communicator

Karlsruhe, Germany / Online | Communication | Full-time

As the highest decision body of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the assembly gathers delegates and visitors from all over the world. The assembly is not only where the future direction of the WCC is discussed and staked out, but also a joyful event where the fellowship of churches comes together in a spirit of solidarity and compassion. It is a time of common prayer, celebration and sharing for delegates, ecumenical partners and other visitors at the event.
A central element is the spiritual life, where the community gathers for prayer and meditation, drawing on the diverse spiritual experience of the churches around the world. An event where also accomplishments of the ecumenical movement are showcased and where new bonds are tied. An event permeated by our faith in God and where Jesus is present in everything we do.

The theme of the 2022 WCC Assembly in Karlsruhe is “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity”.

Communication around and about the assembly is critical. No other ecumenical event gathers so many people from so many places and with such diverse backgrounds. And no other event has the same leverage and authority in shaping the future of the ecumenical movement. It offers a unique opportunity to raise awareness and build interest around pertinent issues confronting the fellowship of churches and the important role the ecumenical movement plays in today’s society.

The WCC now starts the process of building a strong assembly communication team. A large number of young communicators will be recruited and given the opportunity to learn by being part of a professional communication team, either onsite in Karlsruhe, Germany, or online from where they live. The assembly also provides opportunities for young communicators to build and extend global networks.

The assembly is also an opportunity for more experienced communicators to take active part in the daily communication flow, where messages are crafted, stories produced and the media served. Several experienced communicators will be needed.

The WCC is opening recruitment of a global communication team that includes senior communicators who wish to support the WCC 11th Assembly. These positions are voluntarily, with the WCC covering the cost of travel and accommodation for those appointed to be in Karlsruhe.
